History project

Pupils from Clovenfords Primary School have been working with the community council on a project to create a booklet or leaflet on the village’s history. The P4/5 class have been researching different parts of the area, including the Clovenfords Hotel, which Sir Walter Scott stayed at in 1779; Tweed Vineyards, whose grapes were delivered by rail as far south as Covent Gardens and Harrods of London; Meigle Farm, which can trace its history back 450 years and once housed Buffalo Bill’s animals during his tour of Scotland in the early 20th century; and the village’s earliest recorded school, known as the Luggie, where the esteemed Dr John Leyden taught for a term.
